Your first week

By now you should be setup and finding yourself familiar with the FutureLab way of life – congratulations! Depending on your role, your first week will look a little different. Whether you’ve shipped some code changes via a few pull requests, or reached out to a few customers to understand their digital needs – you’ve made it to the end of your first week!

A typical first week looks like this:

You’ve Met most of the people at FutureLab

We are humbly a remote-first company, so understandably – so people might not be working during your first week. If not, let us know and we’ll schedule a 1:1 15 minute intro with those team members you haven’t met yet.

You have access to all the tools you need to work effectively

Whether this is access to systems like Github or Hubspot, productive or even a comfortable working setup, everything should start feeling comfortable and familiar. We don’t expect you to understand all the systems deeply, just that you know where to look or who to ask to unblock yourself.

You’ve met with your manager

This probably happened early in the week – but your manager is your go-to person, they are definitely here to help you succeed!

You have at least an idea of what the next few months will look like for you

The next three months in New Zealand (which we apply generally to all new joiners, irrespective of their home country) are focused around success during the probation period. While the specifics will differ, you should have a high level view of what and where success will look like for you.

Outside of normal work event cadence, we also try to meet up in person with those close enough to merit a work trip.

Leadership team have introduced themselves

Our team is still brilliantly small enough that you should have met Ralf, Tarei and Gregor – who all have a different lens and responsible for different parts of FutureLab as a company. That all goes to say, you probably have 3 different opinions about the company from these 3 people. The diversity of which is shared with you to give a wider view of FutureLab works together and help inform your place in the company.

Finally,

You start to feel a little more comfortable working here.
Because we are absolutely excited for you to be here at FutureLab!
