Your first day

We are all thrilled and excited to have you on board as a new member of the FutureLab digital team.

Over the coming days and weeks you’ll come to learn about who we are and how we work. The handbook is your go-to place for all things FutureLab, but you can also ask for support from your manager, or anyone on the FutureLab team.

If you think something is missing from our handbook, or needs improving, please let us have you ideas in #company-handbook channel in Slack.

Your first week will be all about getting you settled in at FutureLab. If you’ve been freelancing with us in the past, you’ll already be familiar with some of our processes and some of the team. But now it’s time to get you properly embedded.

1. Check in with your manager

When you join the company you’ll be assigned a manager. This is usually one of the leadership team as we are still nice and small. Your manager will arrange a calendar invitation for a 1:1 meeting, but feel free to reach out to them on Slack.

2. Getting your credentials all setup

We will set you up with an @futurelab.co.nz email address. Once you’ve received your email address you will need to setup the following:

  1. Turn on Two-factor authentication (2FA) for your email.
  2. Set up your email signature: Pro-tip: Copy one of the other peoples email signature and update with your details.
  3. Ensure you have a Gravatar set up for your @futurelab.co.nz email address.

All external systems and apps we use will require your FutureLab email address.

3. New Zealand employees are a little different

If you are joining from New Zealand, we have different legal requirements. These will be shared with you when you join, but are things like IRD/Kiwisaver type things.

4. Access all the things to do your job

Tools you need access to are role specific. Your manager will run through these during your onboarding week.

5. Say hello to the team in slack

FutureLab have a remote workflow across the globe, feel free to say hello in #general channel in slack. Your manager will post an official joining message and within your first week, we will arrange a meet and greet with people on the team within your time zone.

We really are stoked to have you on our team, welcome to where we invent the future with friends.
